World Pipe Band Championships

Brisbane Bagpiper - Nick Tomkins - is Pipe Sergeant of St Andrew's Pipe Band, Brisbane. In August 2015 the band travelled to Scotland to compete in the World Pipe Band Championships.

St Andrew's spent the first week practicing in famous Stirling - home of Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, and Stirling Bridge; the site of the Battle of Stirling in the Scottish War of Independance. St Andrew's competed at North Berwick and Perth, coming 1st place at North Berwick. Unfortunately, we ran out of luck on our way home when our bus broke down in a town with no pubs - what are the odds in Scotland?

The band then moved to Glasgow for the final week leading up to the World Championships. Competing on the day, St Andrew's had a very successful run in the qualifing round - winning the heat against quality competition. In the finals the band placed 10th overall.

Nick was lucky enough to be part of this great experience and will be returning next August with the famous Manawatu Pipe Band from New Zealand to once again attempt to conquer the best bands in the World!
